Review of Silk Stockings (1957) by Kathleen D — 28 May 2009
To be honest, it was dull and and it almost lulled me to sleep. As separate talents, Fred and Cyd were brilliant, but their chemistry on screen needed a whatamacallit-catalyst. To me, the film only came alive during Cyd Charisse's dance solo, which was sadly halfway down the movie.
All in all, I loved the costumes and dance numbers. It was great to see Peter Lorre in a comedic role. I didn't know this was a remake of Ninotchka (I've always wanted to watch that movie), so I'm irked that I saw this version first.
