Review of Silk Stockings (1957) by Michael T — 24 Dec 2017
Cole Porter's Broadway hit musical adaptation of Ninotchka was transferred to the screen by MGM and director Rouben Mamoulian with the emphasis on dance, and with Astaire & Charisse as the stars, the change works quite well; Janis Paige almost steals the show as a former swimming star a la Esther Williams, and her number "Satin & Silk" is a pure delight; other musical highlights include Cyd's ballet to "Silk Stockings," Astaire and Paige's "Stereophonic Sound," and Astaire and Charisse's duet to "All of You.
