Review of Silent Souls (2010) by Simon P — 14 Aug 2012
A film about the Merjam people and their very weird rituals. Somewhat a sexual movie with both (alternative) nudity and dirty language. The script is poetic, dream like and mysterious, the shooting are nice and so are the score.
The movie generates many thoughts - there is room for your imagination to go wild. My fascination for Russia - the people, the nature, and the way og living still interest me a lot after seeing this film.
It has this great, typical Russian film look that I adore so much, sadly it never gripped me until the very last moments. This capturing was still pretty weak so it won't be remembered for long even though it probably will sink in slowly - it's that type of film.
Beautiful, weird - not very gripping. Artsy. Good - not great.
