Review of Silent Running (1972) by Liim G — 12 Feb 2010
BEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!!
Seriously - the best movie ever made.
Bruce dern is a master of monologue, in that scene where he does a token funeral service and slowly cracks up - classic.
The drones drip pathos, the guy is passionate about the last ideal of hippiedom, and the ending - beautiful. The last message is that where man has failed, the machine can succeed. Plus - one of the best acting oppurtunities yet - a hippie sent from corporatism to care for your loves, then having to kill a man, and being alone in the void with the last pieces of greenery left.
The Joan baez song ties it all together. The pathos vibes can be felt through the theater seat. And really, it is easily one of the best films ever made.
The only drawback I even know of? That little plot hole that there was really no reason to blow the domes up, so I suspect that in the future american airlines is loaded with dicks.
