Review of Silent Running (1972) by Stuart L — 30 Aug 2007
Its a shame this movie was overshadowed by the giants of the 70's, I dont think the was a better crossover from the 60's hippidealism to the sci-fi genre. Watching this movie again the only thing that seems dated is the camerawork.
after 2001 was made it seems like the DOP's were scared to jump ship from the tried and tested silent passing shot (bring on lucas & ILM). still, this movie holds its charm. And Derns Pacifist at breaking point is very poignant to the modern world.
Show your children this movie, maybe they'll listen... we didnt.
