Review of Silent Running (1972) by Maxwell F — 22 Apr 2008
I was really hoping that this movie would be great. I love science fiction movies, especially science fiction that are of the cerebral, thought provoking kind much like 2001, so I was expecting more from Douglas Trumbell, who worked with Stanley Kubrick on that film.
I agree that it is an original idea, but I found many of the scenes to be overly moralistic and I wanted this story to be more potent. Also, sorry for fans that loved them, but I found the songs by Joan Baez throughout the movie to be irritating and obvious.
For a movie that takes place in the isolation of space, I would have preferred a minimal amount of music or none at all.
