Review of Silent Running (1972) by Eric B — 06 Nov 2008
Silent Running stars Bruce Dern as Freeman Lowell, a nature-loving crew member aboard the Valley Forge, a gigantic spaceship in a small fleet that carries the last surviving forests of the Earth, which has fallen victim to overpopulation and ecological neglect. When the other humans give up with the project, they plan to go back to earth. But Freman has other plans, and takes things into his own hands to save the forest.
Apparently this is the film Pixar rip off to make WALL:E, I've not seen that film yet so can't tell you, but I thought I give this a watch before hand, so I can judge for myself. Anyway when I got this film through the post I thought it was going to be very cheesy, and the story sounded rubbish, but to be honest I really enjoyed it. It is very interesting that in this day and age, when we have apparent world problems, nearly 40 years early they where think the same thing. I enjoyed this film a lot even though its slow, it looks great, has a great atmosphere, and their little buggy's are wicked, also it's a Sci-Fi film without guns, and battles, very unusual.
