Review of Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987) by Steve D — 29 Jun 2014
Oh yes, we're in the "so bad, it's good" territory now. Eric Freeman's legendary performance is memorable for all the wrong reasons, and boy, is he fun to watch!
The film does have a few problems, though, like "why does it exist?" It's mostly stock footage of the first movie, and it offers little to the continuity of the story. Well, it exists because it was supposed to be a cut version of the first Silent Night, Deadly Night. Freeman was supposed to tell the story as it went along, and never leave the mental ward in the first place.
Another problem is that the film is supposed to take place on Christmas Eve. If I didn't know that it was supposed to be a Christmas film, I would tell you the movie takes place in the middle of summer.
My final problem would be that the original actors were gone, especially because the first half of the movie is stock footage and we remember the original actors as clear as day. It takes away the satisfaction that we would have had for seeing Mother Superior pay her dues.
But, honestly, Eric Freeman's performance is very entertaining in its own way, and I definitely recommend it to people who don't take their exploitation films too seriously.
