Review of Silent Movie (1976) by Daniel K — 21 Sep 2010
3: Absolutely ludicrous. The scene in the unstable trailer with James Caan is classic. The "Fags" ladies are great. The newspaper stand man that keeps getting the stacks of newspaper hurled at him and the bit with the dogs getting mixed up are both hilarious.
The morning prayers to money in the boardroom works as well. Then the knights in shining armor trying to sit down at the table bit is next. They just keep coming and just about each and every one is laugh-out-loud funny.
It seems improbable that each scene could continue to rise above ones expectations, but they do time and time again. This is classic slapstick of practically the highest order. The third act isn't as spectacular as the rest though.
Brooks can't quite maintain momentum and keep one fully engaged with the story. It's still a pretty incredible film considering it is actually a silent movie and it's made in 1976. I was considering 3.
5 at one point.
