Review of Silent Hill (2006) by Kc E — 26 Oct 2012
Being a fan of the games, I enjoyed this movie vastly. It captured so much about the series that I loved, from the poetic nature as a whole, to the beautiful atmosphere, and the creepy locales, which suddenly can become an ugly nightmare filled with monsters. it is an aesthetic dream come true, and is still today one of my very favorite horror movies.
There are a lot of problems with it though. the script is horribly written, and real people don't really talk the way that some of these characters do. Sean Bean's role as Christopher, and his scenes, hurt the movie a lot, though it did serve to give insight on how Silent Hill works. Some of the acting was iffy as well, and the story, so very complex, was also very convulted.
But honestly, I see this as an art film more than I do a blockbuster of any sort, or something that needs to be technically correct to enjoy. To me, it captures many special things about a special series that I have loved for years.
