Review of Silent Hill (2006) by Ross A — 03 Nov 2012

Now to start this off, I am a HUGE silent hill fan ever since back in 1999 when the first game came out. however, in 2005 when I heard Hollywood was planing to make a feature film about the infamous horror survival game, I was soo upset yet excited because they were making a movie about my all time favorite game, but I thought "what if it turns out like shit, like they did with resident evil ?"....then I saw the trailer THAT really made me upset because they made harry mason, the original protagonist of the story, a WOMAN...now I'm not being discriminative but its just one of those things that pisses me off, that and they changed the name of the daughter from Cheryl to Sharon.....i mean, really.

Then forward to the next year 06, I finally went to see it. I have to say its really wasn't THAT bad, the good things about it was they nailed the unsettling and eerie environment that the games offer. plus ! the really great homage to the beginning of the first game where harry mason goes down the creepy alleyway to look for Cheryl as it changes to darkness, and comes across the mumblers (or as there called in the movie, gray children). I thought that was awesome, that and they at least put Cybil Bennett (the cop in the original game) in the movie along with the creepers(the cockroach creatures) .

The bad things are that the antagonist of the movie is completely different from the game. In the game it was, dahlia that was the villain but instead shes not.. she's been reduced to being nothing more then a side character, in the movie some other woman named Christabella is the baddie. And the acting was average, plus the big no no is....they put pyramid head along with the lying figure in the film, why !? they both didn't even appear until silent hill 2. overall its watchable, I felt it would have been more enjoyable if it had the original characters, story and creatures but oh well.
