Review of Silent Hill (2006) by Roxanne R — 11 Oct 2014
Ok because of my FB friend who discussed the film with me I chose tow watch it and I will start by saying that I loved the fact that it is women driven: we have a mother named Rose Da Silva (Radha Mitchell) heading over to the eerie town of Silent Hill with her adopted daughter Sharon (J.
Ferland) in the hopes of finding a cure for her daughter. Once there Rose loses her daughter and with the friend of a policewoman (Officer Bennett) played by Laurie Holden, they embark on a dangerous adventure with wild and terrifying creatures that baffle the mind.
The plot continues from there but I praise the special effects of this film, holy smokes- for being made in 2006 it shows incredible ingenuity. Roger Avary was the writer and it was based on a video game created by Team Silent.
I was rooting for both women especially Officer Bennett. I applaud the writer for placing strong and smart women as protagonists. Why am I giving only three stars to this one while I gave either four or five to Silent Hill:Revelation? For starters the special effects and various creatures of Revelation depict careful attention to detail and amazing creativity.
Truly horrific creatures that placed me in tension as I watched. Also the girl grows up and now Sharon is a teenager and she is fighting these creatures at Silent Hill so the plot is more interesting.
Overall I do recommend it if you saw Revelation!
