Review of Silence (2017) by Jim J — 21 Jan 2017
Difficult to assess this movie impact. Beautifully acted, filmed and scripted. But what is the point and what was that about the over two hours length? A couple of Christian Padres go to feudal Japan in the middle 17th century to locate a missing fellow Christian Padre.
Then comes long periods of hiding, escaping, hearing confessions and ultimately, various forms of human torture and brutality. Has the Scorsese touch as a plus but hard to see how this one goes down as any sort of classic in the future.
