I found this long-awaited Scorsese film riveting, thought-provoking and profound. Having spotted its appearance on cable-on-demand, I feel I finally found the movie I would have rooted for during the Oscars! (Where it was ignored -- too little inspiration for political cracks, I guess.

) I disagree with some that you'd have to be a religious believer to appreciate it. But I do think it'll be more interesting to those who have thought about spiritual issues ... whether they ended up embracing faith or rejecting it.

Superb acting, and it's visually haunting, as well.
