Review of Silence (2016) by Ken S — 31 Mar 2017
Martin Scorsese's latest religious passion project is a well made methodical film about the depths of faith and where it can lead in the face of adversity and suffering. Andrew Garfield is very good, carrying the bulk of the nearly 3 hour film on his back.
And I don't know how Scorsese is so good at making such long films that rarely feel their length. This is a long film to be sure, but unlike his long films like "Goodfellas" or "Wolf of Wall Street" that move at a fast pace which keeps the length from becoming tedious, this is a rather slow moving introspective film.
..I have no idea why it didn't feel longer to me. He and editor Schoonmaker make quite the team.
