Review of signs (2014) by Cameron M — 08 Jul 2013
Possibly the last genuinely strong movie Shyamalan made, not to say what followed was bad (i have a soft spot for this mad, silly prankster of a filmmaker) but aside from a dodgy ending (crap cg alien, daft War Of The Worlds esc doing in of said aliens, overly religious overtones) this is often a thriller of Hitchcockian control, and Spielbergian grace and warmth, with extremely suspenseful, masterfully built scenes taht often descend into strong horror elements, great characters, subtle performances, and even some very funny, oddball moments, this Close Encounters meets Night Of The Living Dead crossed with The Birds drama/thriller/horror is a strong, moving, an unusually sweet and gentle film.
