Review of Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018) by Gracie B — 17 Sep 2018
People seriously need to chill the fuck out with hating on this film. It is a rom-com and It isn't trying to be anything else. Some are getting so freaking offended by some of the jokes or things within the movies (are we really that sensitive these days?), when really it's just a story of a teenage girl not thinking she is good enough for this really hot boy.
Surely, most of us can relate to the feeling of not being or looking good enough for someone, right? This film isn't trying to offend anyone with its teenage perspectives and representations, nor is it trying to normalise cat-fishing.
Offensive jokes you say? There are a shit tone of movies and tv-shows out there that are offensive and have pore jokes. Personally, I didn't think any of the apparent jokes or phrases within the film were offensive or rude.
The movie is about teenagers, and how teens behaviours. It is about going through the motions of high-school - messing up, making mistakes, building and breaking relationships, and feeling the pressures of society and high-school bullies.
See the movie for what it is, not a perfect Oscar-award winning film, but a high-school teen rom-com. It is, essentially, a cute, funny and heart-felt movie, flaws and all.
