Review of Side Effects (2013) by Crystal D — 06 Sep 2013
Movie took about 40 minutes to get to 'the point', but once it did it was somewhat gripping. At first it seemed like an indictment of big pharma, but it quickly turned into a conspiracy thriller. There was a certain predictability though. For instance, I could see Jon's wife, Diedre, being a bitch from a long way off. From the first moment she came in the picture I knew she was the type to run off as soon as shit got difficult and I was right. This seems to be a reoccurring theme in movies these days. Of course she came back as soon as the good doctor cleared his name, without any help from her what so ever. What a cunt.
Another downside was that as soon as the clue was revealed that things weren't as they seemed the tension was gone and the movie was just tying up loose ends.
The acting was pretty solid, especially from Rooney Mara. Jude Law was pretty good although he seemed a bit distant at times.
All in all I'm glad I watched this one, but I don't think I'll watch it again, it's just a bit too boring.
