Review of Side Effects (2013) by Edward G — 18 Jan 2014
One reviewer says, "The main thing to keep in mind while watching Steven Soderbergh's playful new thriller is not to take the movie too seriously or else you'll feel betrayed by the end." As ashamed as I might be the reviewer is right.
The movie is an impressively intelligent thriller. It stabs you deep (in much the same way as Emily does) asking you to open your eyes. But, the truth is far too shocking. For, at the end of the film, the only "good" character is Martin.
And, even towards the end, one doesn't stop feeling empathetic toward Emily. Disregarding my unravelment of the film, Side Effects is a must watch for all thriller lovers--it will swoop you left and right leaving you in a comatose state of reluctance and questioning.
