Review of Side Effects (2013) by Jeff B — 12 Nov 2015
Emily Taylor is a woman whose dream-life comes smashing down around her when her husband is handcuffed by the Feds as they leave a high profile party. Allegedly this puts her into a tailspin of depression that eventually results in Emily killing her paroled husband due to the side effects of anti-depressants she's been put on by Dr.
Banks. Banks eventually discovers that it's all an act put on by Emily working in cahoots with Dr. Siebert, her lesbian lover simply to gain riches, doing so mostly because she's so upset her fantasy fell apart.
So the viewer is to believe that just because one's dreams are broken it logically turns a sane woman into a murdering psycho over night. We're also supposed to believe that a forlorn middle-aged woman whose husband has left her for a younger woman will easily turn into a lesbian / thief just because .
... Well, you get the point. The plot is as far fetched as they come while at the same time appears to become complicated just for the sake of being, well, complicated. I'll take a pass on this sleeper, thanks.
