Review of Sid and Nancy (1986) by Laura M — 27 Mar 2010
Visceral, brutal, brash... and brilliantly acted, this film follows the wasted (in more than one sense) lives of these two in blunt fashion. The mood of apathetic self destruction pervades the whole movie, and it captures the self loathing of all of the characters with clinical accuracy.
Gary Oldman is brilliant (When is he not, really? Even in the crappiest movies he usually offers a bright spot), and Cloe Webb's Nancy is perfectly and appropriately nerve grating. Not a movie I see myself watching repeatedly, it is nonetheless worth seeing.
