Review of Sicko (2007) by Jonah R — 19 Sep 2009
A very disturbing documentary on the state of health care in the United States. You better not get sick over there, because the big health insurance companies are having a policy to deny as many claims as possible.
For many Americans the health care system has nothing to do with care (and according to Michael Moore they got Richard Nixon to thank for it). Moore shows that health care is better in Canada, the UK and France, which aren't communist countries.
Actually, medical care for all people is better in Cuba than in the US: the inhaler that costs 120 dollars in the US, costs 5 cents in Cuba. Of course we all know that Michael Moore is a left-wing documentary maker, but I believe he really has got a point here.
It will cost president Obama a lot of effort to introduce a universal health care system - let's hope he will succeed. In the meanwhile I feel so lucky to live in Europe: I pay quite a lot of taxes, but I get some basic securities in return.
