Review of Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist (1997) by Ann D — 03 Apr 2009
NOT for the squeamish. I started out judging Flanagan for his narcisism and deliberate self-harm, but this film forces us to take a closer look at what motivates him. It details the living nightmare that is Cystic Fibrosis and contrasts it with his SM and artwork.
At one point you've seen so much you're sure the credits will roll. They don't, and the ending is something you'll never forget witnessing for the rest of your life. Very important film.
Watch the extras, too.
