Review of Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist (1997) by Kyle H — 29 Aug 2007
I can't really judge the guy because this is what he did for his own personal enjoyment. This film cements the fact that I don't understand S&M and never will, but this shows a case where the willing of a man can live on many years past the time when he's supposed to go kaput.
I would almost say that Kirby Dick exploited him, but really, Bob was going to die anyways and he was already exploiting himself for personal gain. It takes a man with an insane amount of exhibitionist confidence to let himself be seen to the world like this.
Plus, you know, it helps more people understand Cystic Fibrosis with a lot of shock and jokes.
