Review of Sicario (2015) by Cheri B — 30 Jan 2016
Wish I hadn't seen it. It's watchable for most of the storyline.. but also has so much intense violence that it's not watchable for all of it.
There isn't any kind of theme or conclusion that adds anything into my world. I don't know how much is accurate and suspect a lot isn't, so it's not useful to understand the Mexican drug world and US cops better. It doesn't wind up being "entertainment" as a movie.
There's a lot that doesn't make sense when it's presented. You have to keep watching closely to get the fill in the pieces. For instance (spoiler) she's attached to the FBI (or CIA) unit because they need a non-federal cop attached.
1) That makes no sense legally that I know of. 2) Why is this some secret from her and therefore the audience? They wouldn't put someone in danger without disclosure to them. There are a variety of other confusing or inconsistent pieces like this.
The "got revenge" ending, isn't enough to carry a movie for me. I live for more than revenge as the whole purpose of a movie. I need some depth somewhere -- either characterization, or historic info, or thoughtful concepts on life and solving things, or humor, or fun.
Well enough done as far as the acting and direction.
