Review of Sicario (2015) by Jared V — 27 Dec 2016
Fantastic mystery/thriller. The pacing is excellent and the plot is interesting and complex enough while remaining simple enough to grasp. I especially enjoyed Villaneuve's masterful cinematography.
Every shot is wonderfully composed, with symmetry and vibrant colors. He does well to set the stage with wonderful shots of the Mexican and Arizonan landscapes, congested city of Juarez, and the homes of the drug lords - contrasting the inequality of the drug cartels.
Especially penetrating was the illustration of the collateral damage -- the officer Silvio narrative arc was the most poignant expression of this theme. All around fantastic.
