Review of Sicario (2015) by Jeff C — 23 Jun 2017
Starts dumb, with the unlikely notion that a house with 45 corpses in it would not smell bad until someone moves a piece of plastic. But it gets better proceeding to a brutal and perversely satisfying ending. I didn't buy Emily Blunt as a FBI badass for a second. Surrounded by the baddest of the Delta Force good guys, when any man or woman would over-compensate with their own toughness, she's all dead-eyed sadness and guilt-ridden by-the-bookishness. Maybe bad directing.
I can't tell if the movie wants us to root for the lawless American lawmen and CIA or if it just wants it both ways. Visually impressive, and Benicio Del Toro is outstanding. "You're not a wolf, and this is a land of wolves.".
