Review of Shut Up and Play the Hits (2012) by Adam K — 17 Jul 2012
The first thing this film will showcase to its audience (whether familiar with the band or not) is how amazing they are as musicians and performers. It was also take the time to portray James Murphy's humble spirit as a man who has chosen to walk away from fame to live the normal life he was always desired to have.
This is one hell of a concert film that shows how much of a party LCD shows were. It also brings out some fun and notable guests during the band's final show at MSG which features the likes of Arcade Fire and Reggie Watts.
This is not just an emotional farewell to the greatness of the band, but also a celebration of how many people they got on the dance floor, bringing out a sense of fun, poppy dance music with the attitude of punk rock.
Its a message that music is not about fashion and status, but about letting the notes take you over, and giving up all inhibitions and just having a good time.
