Review of Shrek Forever After (2010) by Shajie K — 27 Dec 2012
"How do you know my name?".
I didn't watch this in the cinema because of how bad 'Shrek the Third' was so I didn't want to go through the same horror again. 2 years later and it was on TV at Christmas so I decided what the hell I'll give it a go - whilst it's certainly no 'Shrek 2' it's still a decent watch and definite improvement on the third film.
Using 'Rumpelstiltskin' as the villain 'Shrek' tired with his monotonous life of living the same day and so makes a deal with 'Rumpelstilskin' to give him 1 day as an ogre when he was feared and could do as he pleased. However, he doesn't read the small print and 'Rumpelstilskin' ends up being the king. Realizing what a terrible mistake he's made he sets out to solve it blah blah blah. The plot is basic bordering on the pandering level, its a decent idea pretty poorly executed what starts off well turns into a simple, bland boring plot full of clichà (C)d story solutions. But its not bad as such just typical.
It doesn't look any different to the last 2 films whilst not necessarily a bad thing lack of improvement is odd but its nice and colourful and there's a larger variety of locations. Its nice to see the world of 'Shrek' run differently from the evil entities point of view.
Middle of the road is how I would describe 'Shrek Forever After' there are some moments of greatness and the plot starts out down the right path but its all to clichà (C)d and there's a lack of humour. Still it's an improvement on the previous entry and hopefully it singles the end of the series - at least they'd end on a high even if it's a small high.
