Review of Showgirls (1995) by Brian R — 01 Dec 2011

I was hoping the director Paul Verhoeven of the film Showgirls would focus a little on Carrie Ann Inaba who plays as one of the Goddess Dancers to give a foreboding look to the audience reminding them..."all that glitter is not gold".

Showgirls isn't a bad film but it is a tiring film. I grew restless after seeing almost the same scenes done over and over again. The film likes to mess around with fiction and fantasy and i'm not sure if this is a film I could take seriously but it does make one pound their forehead in annoyance. Elizabeth Berkley plays as Nomi Malone who hitchhikes a ride to Vegas in hopes of becoming a showgirl.

Berkley's character is nothing but sheer annoyonce she pulls out a knife on a guy for no reason, she starts her infamous temper tantrums, is on her period, blah blah blah. This is not the type of women men should go for because Berkley's character is literally crazy.

Showgirls has a lot more crazyness going on then meets the eye but there is some good moments where Nomi starts a small friendship with Molly Abrams(Gina Ravara) and meets a good faithful stalker played by Glen Plummer who sees potential in Berkley's character, Kyle MacLachlan plays as the entertainment director and Gina Gershon plays as the leading Goddess Dancer Cristal Conners.

Verhoeven's film gets points for showing the inside world of exotic dancing I could tell it's hell going to work and taking crap from a pimp boss but even more of a drag taking more crap from the clients. It's literally an evil place to work at where it's use of drug use runs rampant and can instantly have a fix on a naive female dancer.

Showgirls pays a huge homage to Joseph L. Mankiewicz 1950 picture "All About Eve". It is all about glitz and glmour but little in it's use of ideas. I'm all about done with Showgirls.
