Review of Showgirls (1995) by Terrence N — 11 Aug 2009
The amount of seed I've spilled in honor of this amazing clusterfuck could fill worlds. I think the only other flick I wore out my wrists too as a little fella was True Lies when Jamie Lee Curtis does her manly striptease in front of AH-NULD.
The only problem with that one was that my parents forced me to rewind all the videotapes after I was done and you'd have to spend a few minutes to pinpoint the exact scene where as with SHOWGIRLS you can basically go anywhere and you're guaranteed some nudity and/or terrible sex scenes.
I don't think I ever watched this one all the way through until yesterday and honestly I was engaged throughout. I don't think this is some sort of gigantic satire that picks apart America but it's totally Verhoeven which only means exaggerated and gleefully over the top shenanigans throughout.
It's also very confrontational on a plethora of issues that few filmmakers are willing to approach, successful vegas performers rape their fans and Las Vegas is full of sleazy dishonest scheming assholes who ice down your nipples.
I miss that crazy Dutch bastard, he's one of the few directors who brought honesty and endless brutal violence to the screen. God bless him.
