Review of Short Term 12 (2013) by Charlene K — 18 Jan 2014
A monumental work of predictability, sap, and emotional manipulation. Having worked in a facility like this, I was hoping for something a bit more edgy and realistic, and I thought with the set-up at the beginning, it might be, but this story is pretty hollow and focused only on making people think they're can be rom-commish happy endings in such situations.
It's like the prequel to Silver Linings Playbook, like someone worked very hard in trying to figure out how to use emotional manipulation to win over Nicholl's judges, then audiences in general.
I'm glad the Academy didn't fall for it. Still, not a bad date movie. it's just not unique.
