Review of Short Term 12 (2013) by Mohamed F — 10 Mar 2014
So this is just one of those indie gems that keep popping up, much like Half Nelson, even with the same back story of being adapted from the directors' previous short.. though I could call this one a modern day Clerks, if Clerks wasn't too much of a Generation X comedy.
The film shines because of its impressive subtle screenplay, and well balanced screentime for each of the essential characters, heavily inspired by modern realism, and with a hint of Mumblecore, it delivers a unique experience that falls short at certain points. Though it does really hit the emotional notes, and there's a roller coaster of those throughout the movie that hit you ever so subtly.
