Review of Short Term 12 (2013) by Jan P — 09 Sep 2018
One of my very favorite indie films, and I see all I get chance to, so that is saying a LOT!
If this didn't predict what was ahead for Brie, I dunno what could.
Too much to enumerate, this film has it all.
Even fascinating to me was to be fully immersed into these kids dreams, longing, sorrow & heartbreak. All so real. I felt all the characters lives, all their pain.
Even the hip hop song he wrote---and NO, I don't listen to hip-hop but reject it--- truly brought me to tears & resonated in my head for a long time. It was astounding...both lyrically, musically.
If ever you are feeling blue & that you might have it "hard" I suggest you check in to this film. Although. no worries that it's too "hard" a view, not at all. NO matter what you think...see it ANYHOW, That is not the most pressing reason (to check your own life situation). NEVER relies on fake sentimentality or often used manipulative tactics, this ones about as real as life comes. Rings sincere! And yet immensely inspiring & hopeful. These kids & the 2 actors will blow you away.
What a terrific little gem of a film. Masterful.
Go see it!!
