Review of Short Term 12 (2013) by Fawn O — 30 Jun 2014
Passionate, striking, and more devastating than it is sentimental, Cretton's 'Short Term 12' is an affecting character study about a benevolent twenty-something woman named Grace (delivered by a satisfying performance from Brie Larson) working as a supervisor for a short-term housing facility for troubled youth.
While she sifts through the daily challenges of her job, Grace must come to realize the weight of her own disheveled childhood in order to effectively foster the kids in her care. The film's emotional power lies within its verbal subtleties and an unrelentingly sprightly disposition.
