"Short Term 12" is a somber, genuine, and overall effective drama about troubled youth. What makes this movie work is how it respects the audience and assumes that they can put the pieces together when it comes to the story.

The performances are also fantastic, and Brie Larson shines in particular. Her performance is a heartbreaking and realistic one; the same can be said for all of the young actors in this movie. They all do a good job of showcasing different personalities and characters struggling with different issues.

At times, it doesn't feel like a lot is particularly happening, but that adds to the realistic feel of the movie. It's a well-made drama with great performances and a touching story that will definitely move you.
