Review of Short Cuts (1993) by Carlos R — 21 Mar 2011
It's got to be one of the finest dramedies ever made, moving, sad, human, real, and funny in equal parts. An outstanding cast, with a lot of good actors, and tens of wonderful main characters, each one with their own place in the story, each one with their own simple but deep story, and everything told simultaneously, and directed masterfully by Robert Altman.
The fourth film I've seen of Altman, and this is by far the one I've liked the best, it's a masterpiece. This film's influence in Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia is remarkable in every aspect, and both films are equally superb.
Similar in a way but somewhat different too, this is more lighthearted, and Magnolia is more tragic, but they're both excellent films each one on its way. Both are 3 hours long and neither of them is boring not even for a single minute.
