Review of Short Cuts (1993) by Joan C — 26 Apr 2011
After 19 years, the most interesting thing about this movie is Chris Penn's freaky resemblance to Jonah Hill.
This movie has not aged well. It's very uneven, with a few great scenes (Lily Tomlin was excellent) but many that were clumsy and flat. The unifying thread of all the plotlines is Robert Altman's absolute conviction in his own cleverness.
Check out Rita Kempley's review. She really nailed this one. Kudos to her for seeing through Altman's razzle-dazzle as so many other contemporaneous critics did not.
