Review of Short Cuts (1993) by Rob S — 14 Feb 2010
Not a bad movie, but nothing special. the structure is probably the most remarkable thing here. The way they use Carver's name almost seems inappropriate; i've only read two of the supposed source stories, and they only form the most basic premise for a couple of subplots.
it was clearly unnecessary to give Carver credit, and I the film doesn't do justice to his dialogue or perceptiveness at all. theres nothing about this that justifies 3 hours. just go watch magnolia.
I dont care how much it borrows from this; it's an infinitely better film.
