Review of Shopgirl (2005) by Annu H — 02 Jan 2010
Skillfull acting carries this black comedy forward. The anti-romantic love story - well, except that the happy ending is quite romantic - is hilarious on the surface but aching and even slightly cruel in the core.
The film is a bit too weird (weirdness enhanced with the music - WHAT was it with the loud strings and awkward bedroom scenes?) to be called realistic, but a good film nevertheless.
