Review of Shopgirl (2005) by Anyanka — 27 Oct 2005
Unexpectedly affecting -- and nothing like the hideous trailer promotes: I'm no fan the whole May-December thing, as a rule. Thanks in part to Danes, Mirabelle comes across much more sympathetically and realistically than she does in the novella.
It's the wonderful acting -- "DO, don't SAY" -- which carries this melancholy movie.
