Review of Shooter (2009) by Jonny B — 28 Jul 2012
Antoine Fuqua's take on a Bourne meets Bond scenario is excellently crafted and Mark Wahlberg leads the cast in an exemplary fashion.
Bob Lee Swagger (Wahlberg) is an ex marksman who is brought out of retirement when Colonel Isaac Johnson (Danny Glover) states that he believes the President could be assassinated. So Bob gets prepared for an assassination attempt when the President makes a public speech; however it appears he has been double crossed when a shot is fired from near his position which makes him look the guilty party.
Shooter is an intelligent film which leaves you guessing what happens next.
It has intertextuality between the Bourne movies as you can see through a good guy being set up by an evil organisation. You also see some intertextuality between Wahlberg's performance and Damon's. The both have similar physic and both act in a similar manner.
In brief, Shooter is a thoroughly entertaining blockbuster movie which will at times have you teetering on the edge of your seat.
