Review of Shoot 'Em Up (2007) by Kevin G — 07 Jul 2011
Clive Owen starts in a action movie called Shoot 'Em Up. Owen's character witness the murder of a pregant woman but, is able to save the baby. After he rescues the baby he realizes it was the baby that the men wanted and goes to extreme measures to protect the child and find out why they want him dead in the first place.
Monica Belluci plays a prostitite who helps the main character protect the child. She is a dump character who doesn't add anything to the movie. Belluci's acting was bad and she was rather annoying. The main antagonist is played by Paul Giamatti and he is a great bad guy.
The action in Shoot 'Em Up is great. It's the over the top and cartoonish action that makes you laugh at its intentional ridiculousness. The cheesy lines Owen mutters before shooting someone in the face are hilarous. The movie trys to be over the top and funny but, is very sersious. I think this takes away from the movie. A movie this crazy should be have a lighter tone.
Heavy metal fans will love the soundtrack. Includes classic rock songs by Nirvana, Motörhead, Wolfmother and Mötley Crüe. The songs fit the movie and make bad ass action scenes even more bad ass.
When I watch a movie like Shoot 'Em Up I feel like I'm bipolar. One second I'll be loving the movie and next I'll be hating it. About 50% of the movie is over the top action, with awesome one liners and high body count. The rest is kind of bad.
