Review of Shock Treatment (1981) by Dan S — 02 Dec 2007
A remarkably brilliant and clever film! Although this picture is regrettably underrated, within the past few years has seen an impressive culmination amongst cult and sociologically tuned oddity seekers as a result of today?s reality tv trend.
The plot at first surfaces as nothing more than a game of classic farce quite similar to that of French cinema, however, possesses a much deeper and unique motive that deals directly with mass consumerism and American popularization.
The avid sociologist filmgoer will also be able to detect the very heavy handed references to the mockery of Freudian theory. Every element of this film, from its production design to its playful dialogue is so intricately fastened to deeper meaning that it often escapes the viewer.
Watch with an open mind and do not compare to the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
