Review of Shock Treatment (1981) by David N — 23 Apr 2012
Though Richard O'Brien may disown it, this is a better film than his previous. This one has an actual story, a story that accurately predicts America's current addiction to reality television.
Interestingly, with Shock Treatment ROB made a film that was 180 degrees from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Everyone knew you couldn't do a straight sequel to Rocky, so they came up with something very different --- glossy, bright, spare.
It's not high art, but neither is Rocky. Each is fun in it's own way, though Shock Treatment can "live" without a live audience. Though some of the humor falls flat at times, the music is very good, and Cliff DeYoung does a good job in the dual role of Brad Majors and Farley Flavors.
See it if you have a chance.
