Review of Shock Treatment (1981) by Clint B — 14 Jul 2010
Actually much better than people give it credit for. I don't feel it was a squeal as much as another story in the strange world of RHPS. If you really pay attention and listen you'll realize it's a satire of reality tv.
Think if the movie "Network" was a campy musical it would be this movie. I just think this movie was ahead of it's time and therefore missunderstood it basically predicts in 1980 or obsession with reality tv.
But it gets misslabled as a sequel to Rocky and if you think about it it could be. Look at the role reversal of Brad and Janet. In Rocky Janet is passive and sexually repressed and a Brad is domineering and sexually repressed in a different way.
They meet Dr. Furter and he unlocks thier sexual hangups and Janet is now driven and very take charge and Brad is more passive and timid. Upon repeat veiwings you discover there are so many levels and layers to this movie that get overlooked if you try to watch it as just a sequel.
