Review of Shinjuku Incident (2009) by Jolique L — 15 Aug 2009
Shinjuku Incident is a gruesome protray of disturbing violence in the underground mob scene in Japan. Steering away from Jackie Chan's previous action-comedy genre, this movie is okie though pretty predictable as usual - the unsatisfied greed destroying the lives all around and the lesson of accepting contentment and simplicity. Love triangle between Jackie Chan, Fan and Xu is half heartedly done and I accept that the 2 main actresses are just thrown in as eye-candy - not important. The only thing that struck an emotional cord has gotta be the desperation of the illegal immigrants.
Another note: The chopping off of hand with machete and spiling of guts from sword wound though disturbing has been done before - more vividly and cruel in Tituts. Somehow, it just struck me that the movie aims to have audience glued to screen with violence than story. It didn't get a chance to mess with my head.
