Review of Shinjuku Incident (2009) by Lydia D — 30 Sep 2010
Don't bother with this one...especially if you're a fan of the TYPICAL Jackie Chan film. If you're used to seeing a highly energetic Jackie Chan playing the squeaky clean hero, busting out incredible stunts/fight scenes and a positive ending for all, this film just might traumatize you *lol*.
This is a very dark, very sad story, with no real payoff to any of it in the end...maybe that was the idea, I don't know. I THOUGHT Jackie Chan was once quoted to say he would never play the role of a criminal, yet he somehow does in this one.
Granted, it's a character who tries to control crime from working on the inside, a sort of Robin Hood anti-hero of sorts. But the way it falls apart is just a mess...artistically and literally. And seeing Jackie Chan get effed by a hooker has scarred me for life *lol*.
