Review of Shine a Light (2008) by Whit N — 02 May 2008
I'm fairly certain that Jagger despises Scorcese. I could have been mistaken, but I think Marty was somewhat dismissive of the song Factory Girl. That leads me to side with Mick, as it's obvious that Marty doesn't know his ass from Shinola. I love Factory Girl.
I'm 93% sure that the Rolling Stones have never performed an acceptable rendition of Shattered live EVER. And I believe it is getting worse with each fresh attempt. As soon heard it begin, I murmured very quietly to myself, "Fuck!".
The first of a number of guests comes on stage - Jack White. It was a pleasant surprise. He joined in for Loving Cup. I enjoyed it.
Next thing I know, Buddy Guy is on stage as a guest. During his performance, I'm certain that he devoured the souls of Mick, Keith, and Ron. He apparently couldn't break through Charlie's rigid exoskeleton though. As Guy was exiting the stage, Keith appeared to give his guitar to Guy - no doubt because it was so closely tied to his soul.
Would you think less of me if I mentioned that I thought Christina Aguilera was hot?
When it came time for the curtain call, Buddy Guy was conspicuously missing. My guess is that Aguilera was afraid for her soul and mandated that Guy could not be in the same room as her. I am a bit bewildered that the movie was called Shine A Light, but they didn't perform that song. Given Scorsese's history, I'm surprised he didn't go with the title Monkey Man.
