Good stuff. A heartwarming story that is not too gut wrenchingly sentimental or too cheesy is hard to find. The kid, brilliantly played by Alex Rafalowicz, goes through some pretty rough happenings delivered by his loving and excrutiatingly brutal father, again well played by the always superb Albert Finney.

The father-son combo captivates and is accompanied by an excellent story as the kid battles his awkwardness and the impossible standards of his father to execute his masterpiece of masterpieces. As fine as the first part of the story was made, it was somehow upstaged in the final act by the deservedly Oscar-winning Geoffrey Rush.

He was able to create a very believable and lovable older version of the excited, female groping, and still amazingly skilled and charming David Helfgott. This was a pleasure to watch as the highs and lows were not too high or low and the story remained was engaging until the end.
